Returned to this canvas after a few days, feeling alienated from the project. I think fear of your own art grows with the gap in working. Happily I was able to reconnect and continue.

Would love to hear your comments! Especially, what do you think the subject is.

  1. A great start to a new year! I like the softer colors, but didn't think you needed to tone down any of the color from previous paintings. You should enter the juried Westmoreland Art Nationals. The entry form is on the Arts and Heiritage website. You can enter up to four pieces for $35.

  2. Thank you Joel. I will be in this years Open Studios in Sommerville, MA. It is not juried, they let you in if you live there and pay $55. Although I love the idea of being a part of the A & H festival, I love it so much. My mom and I saw your piece with the deer and computers a couple years ago. That is one great painting!

  3. Maggie,

Great painting! The colors are beautiful! What medium did you use, outta curiosity? Pastels, perhaps? You'd asked, too, for us to comment on what we think the subject matter is, and I'd have to say that it's the old man, sitting alone, deep in contemplation. He actually reminded me a great deal of the Hermit card in the tarot.

  4. This is acrylic paint. I like your association of the character with the hermit. Thank you for commenting, Luna! I actually have not posted the final because I do not like it- changes need to be made. I need to actually bring it back to look more like this version. That is the good thing about photos along the way- with some work you can put the car in reverse :)
